How to compare cabinet quotes without comparing apples to oranges

Look beyond the total to understand what is actually included in your cabinet package.

A cabinet quote can look reassuringly simple: a list of cabinets and a total at the bottom. But two totals only tell a useful story when they describe the same kitchen. A different drawer configuration, missing end panel, or unlisted delivery charge can change what you are actually buying. Here is a practical way to compare proposals without needing to become a cabinet expert.

Start with the same layout

Compare proposals against the same approved floor plan and elevations. Count the base cabinets, wall cabinets, tall cabinets, and drawer banks, then check their dimensions. A kitchen with fewer drawers or a shorter run of wall cabinets is not an equivalent package just because the door color is similar. If a proposal uses a different arrangement, ask why and decide whether that change works for you.

Read the construction details

Look for actual material and hardware specifications, rather than a general description such as “premium cabinets.” Our Signature framed full-overlay cabinets use ½″ plywood panels, a ¾″ solid wood face frame, solid wood dovetail drawer boxes, and soft-close hardware. Compare the box, drawer, shelf, and hinge details separately. A photograph of the door cannot tell you everything about the cabinet behind it.

Find the finishing pieces

Fillers, finished ends, toe-kicks, and selected trim help a cabinet layout meet the room around it. Check which pieces are listed, which are optional, and which your installer will supply. Accessories and cabinet modifications should also be identified. A lower total may simply reflect a smaller scope; it is better to understand that difference now than to discover it when installation begins.

Separate cabinets from the rest of the project

Ask whether delivery, installation, countertops, appliances, and decorative hardware are included or separate. Good Measure is an independent cabinet supplier; installation is handled by your contractor or finish carpenter. Keep a separate project budget for work outside the cabinet package. If taxes or delivery arrangements are unclear on a proposal, ask for clarification rather than assuming that one supplier’s total covers the same things as another’s.

Use the final design as your reference

At Good Measure, your itemized quote is based on your finalized design. Review the finish, quantities, modifications, and accessories against that design before approving the quote and completing your purchase. You do not need competing quotes, a finished plan, or a spreadsheet to contact us. A first conversation is enough; we can help you understand the decisions that will eventually shape your cabinet package.
